With the Sunnyside system, you'll be making weekly and daily targets to help you reach your long-term goals. Many members expect to see significant changes as early as their first week or two but our system relies on incremental habit change, which is designed to take course over a longer amount of time with the understanding that gradual progress solidifies long-term change.

Transforming your relationship with alcohol is a journey and won't happen overnight, but by practicing patience and self-forgiveness, you can motivate yourself to stick with your plan and be successful.

Here are six ways to stay motivated when experiencing challenges.

1\. **Visualize your goal:**  Write down your goals and keep the list somewhere that you will see it daily. We text your targets and progress each morning so you can start your day off right! Reflecting on your goal by journaling is also an effective way to visualize it. Try to be concrete when visualizing. "Losing weight" for example, can feel vague and open ended, which can make it daunting. But saying, "I want to lose 5 pounds by the end of next month" is more concrete and easier to focus on which can make it more attainable.

2\. **Remember your wins:** When you're feeling down, it can be easy to focus on challenges or slip-ups or anything negative for that matter. That attitude can have you spiraling into more negative thoughts, making it harder to feel better. Practice writing down moments when you're happy or when you've accomplished a drinking-related goal no matter how small. Reading through those wins can be an excellent pick-me-up when you're struggling. Learning to give yourself positive reinforcement will make it easier to get through challenges and set you up for success in the long-term.

3. **Focus on your goals:** It's also easy to focus on your weaknesses in moments of weakness. Instead, meet your negative thoughts with positive thoughts about yourself. Building a stronger self-image will make it easier to combat the voice in your head that says you can't reach your goal.

4. **Treat yourself:** Rewarding yourself with something you enjoy can make the process of reaching a goal much easier. Explore new activities and treats so you have options when you need a pick-me-up. Practicing self-care can help with cravings and triggers too so it's great to have a list of things you enjoy that you can choose from. Being good to yourself can keep you motivated when trying to reach an objective.

5\. **Learn to forgive yourself quickly:** Allow yourself time to feel your emotions—because they're valid. But practice timeboxing when it comes to your negative thoughts and feelings. For example, allow yourself no more than 30 minutes to feel bad about a missed target. Then dedicate the rest of the day to recovery!

6\. **Normalize fresh starts:** With Sunnyside, you set daily targets. Every day has a new target, which is a new opportunity for a fresh start. If you veered off-track, quickly forgive yourself and start focusing on your next target.

Learning how to drink more mindfully and hit your goals takes time and practice. The best strategy is to be kind to yourself! We're rooting for you! ❤️ 🙂
